Robinson Builders Merchant Limited started off as an offshoot of HC Robinson & Sons, an agricultural contract business built by Horace Clifford Robinson and his sons Rodney and Colin.
The business went from strength to strength but in the early 1980's the government of the day created a situation which meant serious decisions about the business's future needed to be made. The government had reduced and then stopped grants to farmers for agricultural land drainage. The reduction in grants created a situation that required a change of direction for the business and due to having a considerable stock of pipes, concrete blocks and other materials the next logical step was to sell it on and this was the start of what we have today.
By the late 1980's this had developed into a growing section of HC Robinson & Sons with the sale of more general building materials and civil engineering products. Specialist staff were employed to help and support the changing and rapidly growing business. By 1992 we had become the first builders merchant in Yorkshire to achieve the BS5750 certification and we soon after became Robinson Builders Merchant Limited on the 1st January 2004 with Rodney and his son Vincent taking the helm.
Today, with a 3.5 acre yard full of stock and a 3 vehicle fleet, the fourth generation of family remain present and active at the company, once again adapting the business as times change by introducing a steel fabrications strand to the business in 2019.
